Meet Barranco - Arguably Lima’s Hippest District!
Designers, musicians, artists and some of Lima’s finest restaurants can be found in Barranco, a district in Lima that regards itself as being artistically versatile and hip! I spent the afternoon with family, discovering unexpected similarities between this place and the SE part of my hometown, Portland, OR.
Canta Ranita, a foodies’ paradise, was our first stop. Some the finest seafood dishes are found in this quaint, close quarters setting.
Seafood lovers will enjoy the catch of the day served up on causa capullito, a dish comprised of a potato base built inside a mold with avocado, lime juice and tasty spices added.
Ceviche is another food favorite of the locals. Raw fish, lime and avocado are the primary ingredients. For many, it is an acquired taste. Okay… for me it will take some time to fall in love with this dish, and I’m a fish lover!
