Medellin, Colombia… First Impressions Matter
As we began our descent into Medellin, my eyes caught massive and gorgeous cloud formations outside the window. Normally, I wouldn’t consider taking pics while in the air but couldn’t pass up this opportunity. I took the other pics heading into the city.
Medellin, the “City of Eternal Spring”, is known for having year-round moderate climate due to its location near the equator. The average temperature by month swings only by a degree or two throughout the year. Medellin has two rainy seasons… April through May and September through November.
The only unattractive thing to date is the lingering smog. Some rain would definitely help that problem. We’re in need of some Oregon weather – haven’t seen rain in over two months.
In the early evening, we took a stroll around the corner and up the hill to check out our workspace for the next month. Selina is nothing like the previous sites. We weren’t expecting to find a bar centrally located in the lowest level of the complex. It was surrounded by shops where workers and travelers can find… among other amenities… a hair stylist and tattoo artist. Most impressive were the murals strategically placed throughout the building.
We checked out a bar located four blocks from the apartment. We enjoyed a decent meal and drinks for a relatively good price. Looking at the receipt can be startling, however, just simply divide that 111K by 3.5K and you end up with a bill around $32 USD. The Pablado part of town is upscale, attracting a fairly young crowd. At 3 am, I was still hearing the sound of a trumpet bouncing off the surrounding buildings. I do look forward to trying out the cuisine in the area.
